Henan Polytechnic Institute is located in Nanyang, a national historical and cultural city. It is a national backbone higher vocational college, a national high-quality junior college, and a construction unit of the "Double-High Plan" for Chinese characteristics. The school has been awarded the National Advanced Unit for Employment Work, the National Outstanding Contribution Award for Skilled Talents Cultivation, the Excellent School Award of Huang Yanpei Vocational Education Award, and has ranked in all lists of the China Vocational Education Quality Annual Report for four consecutive years.

学校成立于1973年，先后隶属于原国家第五机械工业部、机械工业委员会、机械电子工业部、中国兵器工业总公司、河南省人民政府，现由河南省委教育工委、河南省教育厅统一管理，是河南省国防科技工业系统唯一一所高等职业院校。学校是教育部高职高专院校人才培养工作水平评估优秀院校、教育部首批现代学徒制试点院校、全国首批教学质量诊断与改进工作试点院校。

Founded in 1973, the school was successively affiliated to the former Fifth Ministry of Machinery Industry, the Machinery Industry Commission, the Ministry of Machinery and Electronics Industry, China North Industries Group Corporation, and the People's Government of Henan Province. It is now uniformly managed by the Education Working Committee of the Henan Provincial Party Committee and the Henan Provincial Department of Education, and is the only higher vocational college in the national defense science and technology industry system of Henan Province. It is an excellent college in the talent training level evaluation of higher vocational colleges by the Ministry of Education, one of the first modern apprenticeship pilot colleges by the Ministry of Education, and one of the first pilot colleges for teaching quality diagnosis and improvement in China.

学校现有孔明路、光武路、方城三个校区，开设10个专业群65个专业，拥有国家级高水平专业群1个，中央财政支持的高等职业学校提升专业服务产业发展能力项目建设专业2个，国家骨干高职院校重点建设专业5个。截至2021年11月，学校占地1986.74亩，建筑面积68.72万平方米，固定资产总值11亿元，教学科研仪器设备总值3.2亿元，图书馆藏书204.59万册，全日制在校生2万多人。

The school currently has three campuses: Kongming Road, Guangwu Road, and Fangcheng. It offers 65 majors in 10 professional groups, including 1 national-level high-level professional group, 2 majors supported by the central finance for improving professional service industry development capacity, and 5 key construction majors of national backbone higher vocational colleges. As of November 2021, the school covers an area of 1986.74 mu, with a building area of 687,200 square meters, a total fixed asset value of 1.1 billion yuan, teaching and research equipment worth 320 million yuan, a library collection of 2.0459 million books, and more than 20,000 full-time students.
