保险职业学院创办于1986年，前身为中国保险管理干部学院，2003年改制为全日制公办普通高等职业院校。学院隶属中国人寿保险（集团）公司，教育业务由湖南省教育厅管理，是教育部人才培养水平评估优秀学校，保险专业国家教学标准制定副组长单位，保险实务专业国家教学标准制定主持单位，中国保险学会常务理事单位，全国金融五四红旗单位，全国金融系统思想政治工作优秀单位，中国保监会文明单位，湖南省文明高校，湖南省第一批“平安高校”，2022年湖南省高校学生思想政治教育研究与实践先进单位建设单位。

Insurance Vocational College was founded in 1986, formerly known as China Insurance Management Cadre College. It was restructured into a full-time public higher vocational college in 2003. Affiliated to China Life Insurance (Group) Company, the college is managed by the Hunan Provincial Department of Education in terms of educational business. It is an excellent school evaluated by the Ministry of Education for talent training, the deputy leader unit for formulating national teaching standards for insurance majors, the leading unit for formulating national teaching standards for insurance practice majors, an executive director unit of the China Insurance Association, a national financial May Fourth Red Flag Unit, an excellent unit for ideological and political work in the national financial system, a civilized unit of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission, a civilized university in Hunan Province, the first batch of "Safe Colleges and Universities" in Hunan Province, and a construction unit of advanced units for ideological and political education research and practice of college students in Hunan Province in 2022.

学院是全国最早一批开办保险专业的公办院校，是中国人寿集团党校和集团直属教育培训机构，集团党校纳入中央党校中央和国家机关分校统一管理。学院坚持“进德砺能、修身报国”的核心理念，着力提升职业教育、党校、培训“三位一体”、独具特色的办学格局。截至2023年，学院开设了5个全日制学历教学系（院、部），12个精品专业，7个专业方向，坚持和发展以金融保险专业群为核心，以财经商贸、康养护理专业群为两翼的“一核两翼”专业发展格局。

The college is one of the earliest public institutions in China to offer insurance majors. It is the Party School of China Life Group and the group's directly affiliated educational training institution. The Group Party School is incorporated into the unified management of the Central Party School's Central and State Organs Branch. The college adheres to the core concept of "Promoting Morality and Cultivating Ability, Cultivating Oneself and Serving the Country", and strives to enhance the unique school-running pattern of "trinity" of vocational education, party school and training. By 2023, the college has set up 5 full-time academic teaching departments (colleges and departments), 12 excellent majors and 7 professional directions, adhering to and developing the "one core and two wings" professional development pattern with the financial insurance professional group as the core and the financial and commercial, health care and nursing professional groups as the two wings.
